Perpetual Calendar Repairs - David Walter Double Pendulum - Part 3
I have been busy working away on the David Walter double pendulum clock trying to come up with an ‘upgrade’ to prevent the issues with the calendar being able to ‘lock-up’. After many hours of adjustments and testing, I have managed to find an answer.
The calendar was able to be advanced even when on the lift, and yes you could argue that the clock should not be adjusted when it is lifting for the calendar, however, if for any reason it was it would lock up to the extent that it would require the dial to be removed to free it up again. For unrelated reasons the calendar was not staying in sync, so this was adding to the problem as the owner needed to adjust the calendar reasonably regularly.
My fix was to modify the system so that when the calendar is on the lift, if the calendar hand is moved the hand will not lock up but just fly back as soon as the next calendar change occurs. This meant making a part and modifying others, but I am very happy with the result.
Watch the video below to see in detail how I got the system to work.
Next up for this clock is to complete the routine servicing/maintenance.
I am planning on making a video running through how this interesting perpetual calendar system works, so keep an eye out for that.
